Schreiber Shines in GSX Conference Pre-Seminar Educational Session: Facility Security Design: A Strategic Approach

On Saturday, September 27th, and Sunday, September 28th, our President and Principal Consultant, Mark Schreiber, took center stage during a highly engaging pre-seminar educational session, at this year’s ASIS International GSX Conference held in the vibrant city of New Orleans at the iconic Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, that truly showcased his expertise and leadership in the field of security design. His presentation, titled “Facility Security Design: A Strategic Approach,” was thoughtfully crafted and delivered alongside a distinguished panel of security architects and engineers, offering attendees a deep dive into the comprehensive process of designing integrated physical security programs.

This session was specifically tailored for mid- to advanced-level professionals who play pivotal roles in the security landscape, including architects, designers, integrators, security directors, and individuals transitioning from public service roles into the private sector. Attendees were treated to a rich blend of strategic concepts and practical guidance, ensuring that the insights shared were not only theoretical but also immediately applicable to real-world security system design, implementation, and management challenges.

Joining Schreiber were esteemed colleagues Rene Rieder, Security Practice Leader at Burns Engineering, Inc.; J. Kelly Stewart, Principal and Head of Security at Buro Happold Advisory, and Danielle Tabachnick, Senior Security Consultant at Stantec.

The atmosphere throughout the two days was dynamic and interactive, marked by an abundance of thoughtful questions, lively discussions, and collaborative problem-solving. Attendees engaged deeply with the material, sharing their own experiences and challenges, which helped foster a vibrant community of security professionals committed to advancing best practices in facility security design. This session not only provided valuable knowledge but also strengthened professional connections and sparked inspiration for innovative approaches in security planning and execution.

McInnes Makes Way in GSX Conference Session: The Role of Fire and Life Safety in Enterprise Security Risk Management

During the conference, on Monday, September 29th, at this year’s ASIS International GSX Conference held in the vibrant city of New Orleans at the iconic Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, our very own Life Safety and Security Consultant, Don McInnes, delivered an engaging and highly informative session titled “The Role of Fire & Life Safety in Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM).” This session offered attendees a comprehensive look into the vital integration of fire and life safety measures within the broader framework of enterprise security risk management, a topic that is increasingly critical in today’s complex organizational environments.

Throughout the session, McInnes expertly guided participants through the 3 key actions that security professionals can implement in Fire & Life Safety Risk Management (prevention, preparedness, response), how to evaluate the business impact and potential liability of non-compliance with fire codes and standards, and how to access the fire and life safety hazards that could impact business operations, occupants, and reputation, and understand how to mitigate them.

Adding further depth to the conversation, McInnes was joined by industry experts Chris T. Noll, Vice President of Loss Control at Lockton, and Jeffrey Zwirn, President of IDS Research and Development Incorporated. Their combined expertise enriched the session, offering attendees a well-rounded perspective on risk management from both security and loss control standpoints.

Overall, this session proved to be an invaluable resource for security professionals seeking to elevate their understanding and effectiveness in managing fire and life safety risks within their enterprises. The collaborative insights shared underscore the critical role that integrated risk management plays in safeguarding people, assets, and business continuity.

This said, we would like to thank everyone who joined him for the insightful session!
